AlphaESS and Capture Energy partner to unlock more value from commercial batteries

By combining proven commercial batteries with smart optimisation, AlphaESS UK and Capture Energy are helping UK businesses cut electricity costs and earn from a more flexible grid.

The topic in a nutshell

AlphaESS UK and Capture Energy have partnered to bring AI-driven optimisation to AlphaESS commercial and industrial (C&I) batteries. AlphaESS, one of the world's leading providers of battery energy storage, supplies the hardware. Capture decides, continuously and automatically, when each battery should charge, discharge or trade - based on the site's consumption, solar generation and electricity prices. Capture already optimises a fleet of thousands of residential batteries in the UK, and is now rolling it out across commercial customers.

Commercial batteries are leaving money on the table today. Most of them do one of two things: they store solar power during the day and discharge it into consumption later, or they charge and discharge on a fixed schedule - regardless of what electricity costs or what the site needs that day. In both cases, they leave at least half of the available savings on the table. Capture's C&I Optimisation changes that. It forecasts the site's consumption and generation, follows market prices in real time and picks the most valuable action for the battery at every moment. In practice, that means three things for a business:

  • Lower electricity costs, because the battery charges when power is cheapest and covers the site when it is most expensive
  • More value from on-site solar, because the battery keeps space free for the generation the system expects tomorrow
  • Additional revenue from flexibility and grid services, for eligible sites

The two companies have built and tested the integration over the past year, with deep API access to AlphaESS C&I systems such as the Storion TB125 and TB250 - enabling the secure control of these systems, without requiring any additional hardware.

The first AlphaESS systems running on Capture are already live - with game-changing returns. For example, a standalone commercial battery in Sutton (Greater London) has been operating on Capture since September 2025 and is saving its owner more than £1,200 per month. That brings the system's payback period to under four years - a fraction of what the same battery would achieve on a fixed schedule. The partnership also strengthens the proposition for AlphaESS installers and distribution partners. A Capture-enabled AlphaESS system delivers more value over its lifetime, pays back sooner and is easier to sell - without adding any complexity on site. Installers and partners can offer optimisation as part of every new installation, and bring it to systems they have installed in the past.

Clemens Munter, Co-Founder of Capture Energy, added: “Most commercial batteries still run on fixed schedules and capture only a fraction of the value available to them. Together with AlphaESS, we are changing that. Capture forecasts each site's consumption, follows market prices in real time and automatically chooses the most valuable action for the battery at every moment. And because the integration runs in the cloud, existing AlphaESS C&I batteries can connect to Capture without any new hardware.”

Getting started

Businesses that already run an AlphaESS C&I battery can connect their existing system to Capture - no new hardware and no site visit required. Register your interest here and the team will help you onboard your battery. Businesses that want to cut their electricity costs with battery storage can also get in touch. Capture and AlphaESS will assess your site and model what an optimised battery would save you - contact AlphaESS UK or Capture Energy.
